CHRISTMAS DELAYS EXPECTED ON THE A12!
According to Cadent Gas, major works to a gas main under the A12 near Woodbridge will begin next week (Monday November 13th) and will take over a month to finish in the busy run up to Christmas.
The works come in lieu of the expected impact of more traffic from the proposed Sizewell C site. Cadent says drivers will be affected as the arterial road will be reduced to two-way traffic.
The firm says that recent repair works in the area revealed an ageing gas main which is showing signs of corrosion and needs replacing.
Teams will need to dig a deep excavation along the A12 at Grove Road, measuring almost 800m in length, to access the mains and associated pipework.
As a result, the following temporary road management measures below will be put in place:
Narrowing of the A12 between Monday 13th November and Friday 22nd December allowing two-way traffic
Two-night closure of A12 approaching the roundabout close to Dobbies Garden Centre on 11th and 12th December;
Closure of the right hand lane of the southbound A12 carriage way between 11th and 22nd December
Closure of the pathway on the Dobbies roundabout between 11th and 22nd December
The company maintains diversions will be set up to ensure traffic continues to flow.
“We’re carrying out this work to keep gas safely flowing into all the local buildings in the area,” says Paul Angel, Cadent’s Lead Delivery Engineer (East of England).
“Having inspected the pipework, it is clear that we have carried out extensive work in the area already, but repair is not an option in this instance and a replacement needs to take place.
“With the planned Sizewell C nuclear plant building project getting underway, we felt that it was important to get this replacement work carried out sooner rather than later to ensure that any further disruption was kept to an absolute minimum.
“We would like to thank customers in advance for their patience and we apologise for any inconvenience experienced as we complete this important work.”
Despite the large project taking place, Cadent says it plans for the gas supply to remain uninterrupted to homes and businesses in the area.
