Summer Contemporary at Britten Pears Arts
Spectacular summer exhibition opens THIS MONTH …
Britten Pears Arts' most ambitious summer exhibition of work by contemporary artists takes place this summer from 20 July - 1 September, featuring more than 100 emerging and established artists, with a strong Suffolk connection.
Glenn Brown (whose magnificent ‘The Holy Bible’ is featured, above), Laurence Edwards, Kate Giles (see below), Jelly Green, Maggi Hambling, Tom Hammick, Roger Hardy, Nadia Koo, Abigail Lane, Ffiona Lewis, Bruce McLean and Symrath Kaur Patti are among the many artists exhibiting in several galleries and spaces across the Snape Maltings destination.

Artwork will be installed in the Dovecote Studio, Winch Gallery, on the lawns, the Concert Hall Foyer, as well as in the newly launched gallery, Building 21.
Every July and August Britten Pears Arts welcomes thousands of visitors to Snape Maltings to enjoy visual art alongside music, shopping, eating and the unrivalled natural landscape.
One of Britten Pears Arts’ founders, Peter Pears, was a major collector of contemporary art, and the organisation has a long history of presenting exhibitions, but this will be the largest show yet. All works are for sale, and with arts funding more challenging than ever, Britten Pears Arts’ commission will help to fund the charity’s cultural activities.
Curator Devi Singh says, “Being asked to work alongside Britten Pears Arts for its first Open call summer exhibition across five very specific venues within the beautiful natural surroundings of Snape Maltings, is at the same time exhilarating and captivating. For me it’s important to celebrate the range of artist voices and to make it as open and inclusive for everyone. We look forward to welcoming you to our first Summer Contemporary exhibition!”
Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based on the Suffolk coast at two popular, historic visitor destinations: The Red House and Snape Maltings. It emerged from the creative partnership of Benjamin Britten, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, and his professional and personal partner, singer Peter Pears. Britten and Pears shared a progressive vision for music and the arts to be useful, helping people enhance and bring joy into their lives. Nowadays, Britten and Pears’ vision inspires all activity, from work with the local communities to their national leadership roles in the fields of talent development and music, health and wellbeing.

PROFILE: Curator Devi Singh
Born in London, Devi relocated to Aldeburgh in 2003 and is a Fine Art consultant and curator. With extensive experience in art-related environments including music publishing and managing British commercial contemporary galleries, she is currently at Thompson’s gallery, Aldeburgh which specialises in Modern British, Contemporary & Scottish colourists. With an inherent need to promote artists and the importance of them within our society, she has led national and international art fairs, managed and curated RHS Chelsea Flower sculpture gardens and was the director and owner of the popular South London gallery and arts centre Melting Pot.
