Shine a light in Saxmundham!
Saxmundham School’s ‘Shine a Light’ Mask Trail has over 25 businesses displaying masks that students of the Seckford Education Trust school, have designed, decorated and painted. The trail runs until 30 June, including half term week to allow families to enjoy it.
Businesses in the town have been approached personally by the students and have been keen to display a specially designed board featuring one of the masks in their window.
Inspired by the past and to Shines a Light on people who helped others in difficult situations, the Mask Trail also represents people who are helping others today; highlighting things that are relevant to us all. The students were inspired by many of the incredible people that shone out during the pandemic such as NHS key workers, shop workers, the fund raising efforts of Sir Captain Tom Moore and the work of Marcus Rushford supporting children living in food poverty.
The ‘Shine a Light’ Mask Trail has been delayed due to lockdown, but students are pleased that the trail that they have created can hopefully play a part in attracting visitors to Saxmundham businesses.
The students have also produced a beautifully drawn map to help everyone find all of the masks and this has been distributed to local primary schools and is also available to pick up in many locations in the town.
Mrs S Thompson, Higher Level Teaching Assistant who has worked with the students on the project says; “From the initial start of the project, our students have thought about and taken this beyond anyone’s expectation.”
