Local Lives: the Style Consultant

“Hello my name is Helen Garth and I live in Felixstowe. I enjoy photography, dancing and play in a local ukulele band.  As a counsellor and hypnotherapist I help people move forward positively in their lives. My family have long flown the nest and I recently reached one of those birthdays with a zero.  I had arrived at a crossroads.  I took a long hard look and suddenly realised a definite need for some serious external ‘personal development’!   My wardrobe was full of black, white and blue.  Nothing seemed to match.  My winter coat looked more like a duvet and, clothes were generally one size too big to hide ‘those bits’.  Familiar and friendly jeans and leggings daily pulled on without a second thought.

My daughters were constantly in despair.  Clothes were forever left hanging waiting for that special event.  Clothes that were never as interesting or fashionable as the day I bought them. My lipstick had stayed the same for too long ignoring the ravaging effects of time on my hair and skin tone.  Was I really applying the same make up as when I was 17?  Yes, it was definitely time for a change.  Time to get real. Time to say that even though I’ve accumulated more zeros than I’d like to admit I can surely  still look good and get some attitude?

The first step I took was a colour consultation. During the session I was draped in different coloured swatches to discover the colours that matched and enhanced my natural colouring.  My style personality was identified and exciting new make-up colours applied. When I emerged two hours later I felt renewed, excited and energised.  I discovered that I could wear colours that I hardly knew existed.  Reds and pinks were suddenly a possibility and out-dated rules gone forever.  Who said blue and green can never be seen and oranges and reds can’t be worn together. Those blacks, blues and whites had been draining me but charcoal looked amazing. The stark contrasts I’d worn for years were too overpowering but softer blends looked fantastic. My favourite accessories proved too harsh and shiny and that lipstick too bland and blue for my skin tone. What a revelation.

The style consultation that followed told me about more flattering shapes and softer fabrics to flatter rather than hide my natural shapes and curves. There is a lot of power in feeling good. I now felt more confident and in tune with myself.

I now enjoy more complements and shopping is more satisfying….and the zeros…..what zeros!  I was so impressed that I have become fully trained to offer others this wonderful experience.  I practice in my home, in Felixstowe, and can also offer enjoyable and relaxing colour or style updates, parties and workshops.  It is fun and can ultimately save you money in the end.   You will find that it is a very enjoyable and friendly experience as you discover colours that complement and enhance your natural tones and shades.

I also offer hypnotherapy if you need a boost before you tackle the outside in.  This is very relaxing and a start to your journey of bringing out the new and fabulous you that’s just waiting to be discovered.”
